FUTURE CATFISH BREEDING BREEDERKUCHING: Empayar Timor of Kuching organized a one-day catfish breeding course on 1 February 2009 in Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Bunuk, Jalan Puncak Borneo. The course was attended by 34 participants who come as far as Brunei, Miri, Sibu, Betong, Bau, Serian and other parts of Sarawak, to learn the catfish breeding techniques which include selection of brood, identification of gender, preparation of the fish, the breeding procedures, hatching and fries care.
According to the spokesperson from the company, the participants had a hands on practical training using live catfish besides the theory input in the class. The “Kursus Pembenihan Ikan Keli” on that Sunday was conducted at Empayar Timor’s fish farm for the practical.
The breeding course will enable the fish rearer to equip themselves with the skills and knowledge needed to produce their own supply of fish fry.
